Oromia is the largest region in the country and it is also home to the largest ethnic group, the Oromo. The region shares an international border with Kenya and internal borders with six other regions as well as Dire Dawa city. Additionally, Addis Ababa city and Harari region are surrounded by Oromia region. The region has been the site of anti-government protests and insurgency for many years. Mass protests that swept through the region between 2014 and 2018 were instrumental in bringing the current prime minister, Abiy Ahmed, to power. Since 2018, different kinds of political violence, including ethnic-based violence and armed clashes, have been recorded in the region. This section includes reports on this region.
